With the hype over the Obi-Wan Kenobi show, it would make sense for Lucasfilm to look into the backstory for Windu, whose origins prior to Episodes 1-3 are relatively unknown. Seeing the Jedi Master’s rise up the ranks of the Council would certainly make for an interesting story and would be a great opportunity for Sam Jackson to return to the Star Wars universe.
According to Daniel RPK’s Patreon, Lucasfilm is reportedly looking at developing a project focusing on a young Mace Windu. A new actor would be cast to play a young Windu, but Samuel L. Jackson would still have a role as the adult version of the character. It should be noted that Lucasfilm has only considered this project, and it’s unsure if the studio will decide to move forward with the project into further development.
Creating a Mace Windu-focused show would definitely tie into plans for a larger shared Star Wars universe. Lucasfilm is allegedly considering spin-off shows for other prequel star, Ahsoka Tano, which would round out a trio of interesting prequel stories along with Kenobi. Production is currently on hold due to the pandemic, but Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor has said that he anticipates his prequel show will only be one season. But, if this rumor turns out to be true, it would be exciting to see him show up in the Mace Windu project as well.
