The one major disadvantage for Cavill in his pursuit of the Bond crown could be that he might just be too likable. There’s a polished sincerity to Cavill, and whether or not this is attributable to him playing Superman for so long is hard to say.
But where Cavill looks like the sort of chap who would favor Bond’s more civil and diplomatic side, Hardy definitely comes off as the Bond who would ask questions with his fists and find diplomacy through the barrel of a gun. For a franchise that is always striving to keep up with the likes of Mission: Impossible, the latter option may provide a better answer.
With numerous rumors floating around about who might end up taking on the role, one particular candidate has not given up hope that he’s the right man for the job. Cavill, who once auditioned for the role at the age of 22, is now 37, and far closer to the age bracket for 007. In a new interview with GQ, Cavill stated that he would still love the opportunity to play the international spy. Acknowledging that the casting decision is still “all up in the air”, Cavill said:
“If Barbara [Bond producer Barbara Broccoli] and Mike [co-producer Michael G. Wilson] were interested in that, I would absolutely jump at the opportunity. At this stage, it’s all up in the air. We’ll see what happens. But yes, I would love to play Bond, it would be very, very exciting.”
