Even with Padalecki’s approval, it’s unlikely the Supernatural finale will meet everyone’s expectations. Many fans have articulated that the show should have ended with season 5 when series creator Eric Kripke stepped away. For those fans, some of whom will be tuning in for the Winchester brothers’ official goodbye, they’ll likely respond with mixed feelings to the fact that the CW stalwart is finally bowing out. Regardless of the final episode’s specifics, however, it’s clear that everyone involved has been heavily invested in finding the most fitting way to conclude the saga of Sam and Dean.
Padalecki’s comments came during PaleyFest NY, per Deadline, as the cast and showrunners of Supernatural looked back on the show’s impressive legacy. Padalecki mentioned that the upcoming series finale was his favorite episode, citing that the filming process had a special feeling to it, but also noted that he was incredibly pleased with how the last episode turned out from a narrative perspective. You can read Padalecki’s quote below.
“I will say that the series finale is my favorite episode of all time… during the filming of that, there was just something in the air. [This story has] been a big part of my life, and I’d be lying if I tried to posit that I hadn’t thought many times about how I want this to end up. I guess I could have seen it ending a slew of different ways, but now that it’s all said and done, I couldn’t be more pleased with the way it turned out.”
