Narcos: Mexico Renewed For Season 3, Diego Luna Not Returning

It may not come as a surprise that Luna is not returning for the third season. It was previously reported that Disney+’s Star Wars spinoff series Rogue One starts filming this month, in which Luna is reprising his role as Cassian Andor.

Deadline reports that Netflix renewed Narcos: Mexico for a third season but will not see Luna returning. The new season will also see a significant change behind-the-scenes. After five seasons, Eric Newman will step aside as showrunner to focus on his other upcoming Netflix projects. Newman will continue to executive produce, and series co-creator Carlo Bernard will take over as showrunner. Though season 3 will not include Luna, Scoot McNairy will return as DEA agent Walt Breslin, along with cast members José Maria Yazpik, Alberto Ammann, Alfonso Dosal, Mayra Hermosillo, Matt Letscher, Manuel Masalva, Alejandro Edda, and Gorka Lasaosa.

Though there was already speculation that Luna might not return for a new season, especially after the way his character’s storyline ended in season 2, it’s hard to imagine the show without the actor. Fans can at least now watch him in season 2 of Narcos: Mexico on Netflix.
