Jon Favreau has just confirmed two notable aspects of The Book of Boba Fett. Firstly, the series will not be The Mandalorian’s third season, being an entirely separate show. Secondly, the two shows seem to have a back-to-back production cycle, with Boba Fett coming first and The Mandalorian starting straight after.
In an interview with Good Morning America, Jon Favreau discussed The Book of Boba Fett and how it differs from The Mandalorian. The show’s executive producer confirmed that the series is separate from The Mandalorian and that Season 3 will begin production “right after” The Book of Boba Fett:
“So this is actually separate from The Mandalorian Season 3, but what we didn’t say in that announcement is that the next show coming, Kathy [Kennedy] said ‘the next chapter,’ and that’s gonna be The Book of Boba Fett. And then we go into production right after that on Season 3 of The Mandalorian, y’know, back with the main character we all have known and loved.”
The Mandalorian creator continued, giving an update on how far in development each project is
“We’re working on [The Mandalorian Season 3’s] pre-production now, while we’re in production of Boba Fett.
Favreau’s wording was vague though, as it is still unclear if The Mandalorian’s filming will begin after production of The Book of Boba Fett finishes or after the series’ release in December. It is more likely, however, that it is the former, as pre-production has already begun on The Mandalorian’s third season.
