Elizabeth Olsen ‘Fought’ For Scarlet Witch’s Comic-Accurate Costume

Scarlet Witch’s original comic book outfit is a tricky one to adapt, but WandaVision seems to have found the right context to fold it into the universe.

In an interview on Vanity Fair’s Still Watching podcast, Elizabeth Olsen discussed the process of adapting Wanda Maximoff’s outfit from the comics.
Although previously being adverse to wearing Scarlet Witch’s comic book costume, Olsen was “so excited” to wear the classic suit this time around:

“I was so excited! Actually, what hap–…we have a Halloween episode and they were trying to figure out how big of a nod to the character we were going to do and it did start off with the classic, um, Scarlet Witch costume. It was kind of like, um, like a gypsy thing that has to wear a, y’know, a headband and I, like, fought for it. I was like ‘No, we have to, like, we have to go full into it…this is like the greatest thing, if Paul’s doing it, I’m doing it…'”

The WandaVision lead also teased that she is wearing the suit for a good portion of the episode, saying it “was so fun:”

“And so, it was…and I’m really in it, it’s not just a flash…I’m really in the costume for quite a bit. And, um, it was so fun! I loved it, and it was the perfect way to wear that costume, because you can’t take that costume seriously.”

It is interesting to see how much Olsen has changed her mind regarding the original suit in just over a year, but perhaps this can be attributed to how the ensemble has even still been slightly adjusted to fit the MCU. Regardless, it is great to hear that the WandaVision star is reveling in the fact that they were able to bring the outfit to screen.
