The chances of a season 2 for Lovecraft Country look promising – although there might be a long wait, as it was recently announced Green will be writing and directing the upcoming Tomb Raider sequel.
Viewers have been clamoring for more ever since the finale aired in October 2020, and though a season 2 of Lovecraft Country hasn’t been officially ordered just yet, HBO is clearly seriously considering more. Bloys confirms to Deadline that showrunner Misha Green and a small team of writers are currently working on a potential continuation of the series, stating he’s “hopeful” about where it might lead. Check out the full quote below:
Misha is working with a small team of writers and they’re coming up with a take. She had a book to go on in the first season, she and the writers wanted to go off and take some time to go out and figure out without a book with these characters, what’s the journey we want to go on. We all want to be sure she’s got a story to tell. That’s where she is right now, working on those ideas. I’m very hopeful, as is Mischa, so we’re giving them the time to work.
This will be the writer-director’s feature film debut, and it could lead to the reins of the show being handed over to someone else if Green’s schedule gets too busy. Nothing is official yet, but it certainly sounds like Lovecraft Country season 2 could be on the way at some point in the future.
